Maria Affourtit - biography

Maria Affourtit (1951- Hollandia, Nw. Guinea) was born and raised in the tropics, after Papoea Nieuw Guinea and a short stay in Hilversum, The Netherlands, she moved to India in the sixties staying at a boarding school in the Himalayan foothills till highschool graduation. She returned to the Netherlands, to discover what her home country entailed. There she married, had two sons, rediscovered her love for drawing, received a teaching degree in art, as well as taking several courses in grafics. She now runs her own company as an artist specialized in portraits painted on commission, as well as teaching several groups of amateur artists in Emmen (AKE), and will be starting english art classes in September 2011 in Assen. She has painted some 50 to 60 portraits on commision and just as many for her self, both as a form of study as well as for shows.
