Maria Affourtit is an artist specialized in portraits using traditional painting techniques. She paints the portrait during several sessions, quite often painting on location, finishing it in her studio, using the digital photo's she takes at the time of the sittings. Besides painting portraits, she teaches several courses in painting techniques. The time which remains is used to paint (local) landscapes or animals.

During the summer of 2009 Maria's work was on show for several months in the Museum Ellert en Brammert, in Schoonoord. The tv programme Bartissimo shows an interview with Maria, by Sophie Timmer. Dutch spoken, the paintings however are understood internationally.
