On 06 January 1999 our son Nabil was born
at 13.37 hours. Nabil weighed 3.665 kg at birth, and was 50 cm long. His
name, in arabic written as means noble, distinguished, magnificent. |
The biscuits shown are the traditional "beschuit met muisjes" (muisjes=mice),
served to family and friends in the Netherlands at the occasion of a newborn.
"Beschuit" is crispy, spread with butter, and served with "muisjes", anis-seed
covered with coloured suger, rose for girls, blue for boys.
The origin of this tradition is said to be superstition, mice being
seen as a symbol for fertility (with some immagination anis seed looks
like mice).
