What is BumbleBee?
BumbleBee is PIC programming software for Windows. You can use it to program Microchip PIC microcontrollers with a Wisp628 or Wisp648 programmer. These are good and affordable prototype PIC programmers (in my opinion) made by Van Ooijen Technische Informatica. There is also a version of the Wisp628 with Galvanic isolation, called the Galva Wisp made by Frits Kieftenbelt. What is new in version 4.02?
- Fixed problem with some Windows language versions.
- Commandline parameter order is no longer of importance.
- Added target devices verification when user sets the device in the target menu. This option can be disabled in the settings menu.
What is new in version 4.01?
- Added commandline parameters /target and /autoclose (see helpfile).
- Fixed bug; Reloaded HEX image was not updated in image viewer.
What was new in version 4.0?
- BumbleBee doesn't need the (obsolete) Microsoft Virtual Machine anymore. This new version is completely rewritten and uses the Microsoft dotnet framework.
- Ignores fixed bits in configuration memory space during verify (caused faulty verification errors in older versions).
- Added support for preserving calibration values.
- Now displays both byte and word addresses of a hex image file.
- Added support for Wisp648 programming device.
- Added support for 12-bit devices, like the PIC10-family and various PIC12 and PIC16 devices.
- Now supports over 175 PIC microcontrollers of the PIC10, PIC12, PIC16 and PIC18 families.
What are the system requirements for running BumbleBee?
To run BumbleBee you need:- A PC running Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista.
- The Microsoft dotnet framework 2. If you do not have this installed the BumbleBee Setup application will ask you if it may download and install it for you. You can also download it yourself over here.
- Windows installer 3.0 or newer. You can download Windows Installer 3.1 over here.
- At least 128MB of RAM memory and a few MB of hard disk space.
- A serial (COM) port (can also be a virtual serial port provided by a USB-to-serial converter).
What does it cost?
Nothing! It's free. However, if you like BumbleBee and find it a usefull application, you can support the development of it by making a donation below.

Why is it called BumbleBee?
Well, Wouter van Ooijen called his PIC programming software and hardware "wisp" and he uses an image of a wasp on his website about it and on the PCB of the Wisp628 programmer, so I thought "Let's stick with the insects..."Who made BumbleBee?
BumbleBee is made by Demian Kuipers. You can reach me at:
