Starting April 1, WinBoard-compatible 10x8 engines will compete in the main Battle-of-the-Goths event of 2008. At a time control of 55 min + 5 sec/move, each participant will meet each other in a round robin of 10 cycles. The cycles will be played in pairs of games with reversed colors. Each pair will start from a different opening position, to guarantee diversity of the games. These are not necessary the same positions for each match, as for legal and technical reasons not every engine can play each position.
Just mail me at h.g.muller YOUKNOWWHAT hccnet DOT nl. The games will be broadcast over the internet live, from the Battle-of-th-Goths website.
Battle of the Goths tournament conditionsHardware: Core 2 Duo (E6600) 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 2 x 250MB hard disk. Software used: PSWBTM, WinBoard_F, Smirfoglot 1.1, HGTBL, Abyss Web Server.
Initial positions will be opening positions from (if possible):
The games will be played as variant capablanca. The engines will have to support 'setboard' or 'edit' to allow setting up of the initial position. For this first edition, engines that do not support this will be allowed to play through the kludge of entering a number of moves in 'force' mode, to convert the opening position they start from in variant capablanca to other opening positions. For this reason each participant should support 'force' mode. |
