Transcriptions from the Hillscheid Kirchenbuch K6

    Mind when searching this page:

• names - and of course other words - may be broken by a (double) hyphen and/or a new line indicator, e.g. Hast=|rich, or some other transcriptional feature (see below The transcription format).

I photocopied those pages of the Kirchenbuch on wich the surname "Hastrich" occurred. As an exercise I transcribed all entries on this pages. Transcriptions of other parts and of other Kirchenbücher with the same surname may follow.

The original format

Hillscheid K6 doesn't use a preprinted layout.
Its left hand margin contains the two family names.
The main part of the page is headed with the year and contains the marriage data proper.
The upper right corner has the page number.

The transcription format

The table format I use here differs from the original, as indicated by the above table (bottom row) and by the following legenda:

• For ease of reference I added a date column.
• Dates in de date column are in the format day-month-year.
• I split the original main column into four columns. Though the splits may fall in the middle of a sentence, the original word order is retained.

So, in my table format the date column is my addition - and consequently the dates in it are printed blue.
The splits between the columns husband and parents, wife and parents and remarks aren't really there.

• Blue printed text is added by me, mostly to fill out abbreviations ("Joh." becoming "Johann") and abbreviatures ("Johañ" becoming "Johann"), or add comment, but not to correct misspellings ("Baurer" remaining "Baurer").
• The blue subcripted numbers following an individual's name are unique identifiers within my database.
• The asterisk "*" is used for adding comment to an entry.
• The stroke "|" indicates the beginning of a new line in the original.
• Curly brackets { } embrace text that is out of line and is meant to be inserted elsewhere, generally to replace cancelled text. Where necessary the place of insertion is marked by an empty pair of brackets { }.
•  crossed out text  reflects cancelled text in the original.
• A change from roman to italic or vice versa indicates a change of writing hand (only used in very clear cases).
• Red print means I couldn't read the text (though I may be sure about the correct rendering).
• Bold print is mine and is used to emphasize personal names.

I only possess page 61, previously numbered 58.
The first part records marriages for 1815, the latter part for 1816.

On April 4th the honest young man Joseph, [son] of Johann Hastrich and Anna Catharina Menges from the Brandscheid parish of Schönberg, husband and wife, and of Mathias Stein and Catharina Stassing, husband and wife, their legitimate daughter Anna are joined in matrimony."

* derelicta ("left alone") normally means widow, which seems strange in combination with virgo ("maiden"). Either derelicta is used for orphan(ed), or virgo for unmarried.

Translation: "On Febr. 1st Johann Kern I and Elisabeth Lindland - first being dispensed for their first grade relationship however - in the presence of their own parish priest and after the hearing of the witnesses are sacramentally united, and they are all from Hillscheid."
