| Afgezien van de vroegere Gottardo Rae TEE II en de huidige Cisalpino ETR 470 zijn tot op heden de lange afstand treinen zoals EC's en IC's via de Gotthard altijd uitgevoerd door getrokken materieel en niet door treinstellen. Daar gaat verandering in komen, vanaf volgend jaar zal het binnenlands ICN treinstel en de nieuwe ETR 610 Cisalpino op de Gotthard hun intrede doen en wordt het vertrouwde beeld van getrokken materieel geleidelijk aan terug gedrongen. Op de foto trekt de SBB Re 460 032 een EC richting Chiasso bij doorkomst van het plaatsje Silenen gelegen tussen Erstfeld en Amsteg aan de noordzijde van de Gotthard. Silenen 22 juli 2004. |
| Apart from the early Gottardo Rae TEE II and the current Cisalpino ETR 470, today long distance trains are formed of loco hauled stock instead of EMU’s (electric multiple inits). This will change soon: starting next year SBB ICN stock and new ETR 610 Cisalpino will take over passenger traffic. The so often seen loco hauled trains will slowly be withdrawn from the Gotthard route. The photo shows SBB Re 460 032 and an EC in the Chiasso direction when passing through the village of Silenen, situated between Erstfeld and Amsteg, on the north side of the Gotthard.
