Greyish Snipe flies from dry grasslands.
1.a. Antenna: 1st segment strongly thickened, greyish haired in the male, black haired in the female. 5-8.5 mm. -> Symphoromyia crassicornis
Preferred environment: In the Netherlands on chalk grasslands. Adult habitat and habits: flying and sitting in the vegetation and bare ground. Flight period: summer. Range: . Identification: Van der Goot (1985).

1.b. Anrenna: 1st segment not thickened in comparison with 2nd and 3trd segment. 4-6 mm. -> Symphoromyia immaculata
