As part of my education I got to work in a multi-disciplinary design team together with five other students. For six months we worked on an assignment for Hunter Douglas B.V. and Fetim B.V., an aluminium producer and a furniture trading company. They asked us to create a new product that in some way used Hunter Douglas' excess production of aluminium profiles in combination with Fetims expertise in the construction and DIY market. After a thorough analysis of both companies and the marketplace, we came up with the ceiling cabinet.

In cramped spaces, such as garages and student apartments, a ceiling cabinet can increase storage space by utilizing the unused space just below the ceiling. Ceiling cabinets could also be useful in business environments, where floor space makes up a large part of the costs. The cabinets come as a DIY kit, and can be hung on any concrete ceiling or wooden beam structure. The Hunter Douglas aluminium profiles are ideally suited for this application because of their low weight and high strength. Their use also makes this a very cost-effective product.
