I have been watching the Matrix for the fifth time today and I have been watching it very carefully. Now I have come to a conclusion. Morpheus is wrong. The agents are the good guys. Take a look a the sign in the Nebuchadnesser. It is not even a hovercraft as Morpheus suggested. It flies too high to be one. And there are other lies, cypher didn't figure it quite out but he was the only one that knew something was wrong. When you look at the sign it says made in the USA. Not Zion. The Nebuchadnesser is the latest in technological warfare. It is a hacking machine, the ultimate hacking machine that the Matrix AI brain could not destroy.
In the movie the question is asked. Who started the war? Of course the USA did. The signs are obvious. Who would scorch the sky? The AI of course wouldn't. Amerika would have been stupid enough. Even Saddam probably would have if given the same choice. That is current day stuff. The Nebuchadnesser is dated 2069, I'll be over ninety by then but it does make sense to me.
Morpheus talks about batteries to power the matrix because of the scorched sky. This is complete bullocks, no sane man would believe this. Neo doesn't even ask. He is like a naive child staring in wonder at the new world. His new world. And Morpheus plays him like the child that Neo is. Ask yourself this, why would the AI go through such great lengths just to get power? Why would it not kill of the human race. Why would it not genetically alter the foetusses to be without eyes, arms or even a stomach. It seem like such a complete waste. The AI has nuclear power, I am sure. Why resort to human batteries? It's stupifying.
The truth is much simpler than Morpheus tells Neo. The truth is that the war is still going on. America hasn't accepted defeat like it never has in the past (I think, parts of it might have). The Nebuchadnesser is a military ship set to destroy the AI en Thomas A. Anderson is its tool (yeah, I just noticed today that Neo is called Thomas in real life. I have really been paying attention the first four times I watched the movie). Sure, the AI could have needed the humans for their efficient processing power, but that is not what Neo was told by Morpheus. Morpheus was telling lies, which seems to be a true sign on leadership in this world. I won't get into it to deeply here. It is off-topic for this review.
The truth is that just like in 2001 a Space Odyssey by Crubic, the AI was hardcoded to serve humanity. After the destruction of our habitat (which seems to strike a similar resemblance with this years Kyoto failure inspired by President beat about the Bush) the AI did all it could to restore the earth. Because, just like me, it figured there was no real difference between virtual and physical reality, it put humankind into the Matrix for the time being while it tried to restore the earth and take out its attackers (Morpheus and perhaps everybody born in Zion). So it is in our best interest to help the agents archive their goals. Like they tell Neo in the beginning, one life has a future and one doesn't. It was a metaphore, but Neo wouldn't understand because the Matrix shielded or in other words protected him from the grim truth.
So why is living in the Matrix such a hell? I ask, why doesn't God intervene on behalf of good in this world? The question to both questions is simple. It is because we have free will. We are our own worst enemies. We created our own hell, but!, we also have to power to make this world a paradise.
Confused yet? I thought you would be. But the truth is out there like it says in the beginning of the movie. This essay of the movie could just be that truth. Don't believe everything you see and hear on television. That's another methaphore. Today I figured out why I was so annoyed with the Matrix last time I saw it. Yet I know of people who saw it twenty times and got nothing out of it. That is a real shame I think.
With this info I hope you can start to enjoy the movie more. I don't know what part II and part III will bring. If hollywood has any say in it it might just be more of the same and be really depressing. OTOH, maybe the script and original ideas will be followed and part III will be something like suggested above. I have no faith in that happening however.
