Bij terugkijken blijkt 2012 vooral een mensenjaar te zijn geweest. Jonge en oude mensen kwamen en gingen. We hebben dit jaar voor het eerst sinds 2002 geen voet op Amerikaanse bodem gezet. We hebben voor Europese begrippen wel heel wat van Europa gezien dit jaar.

Op de eerste foto staat de kerk in Hengelo waar opa Reiling in de Tweede Wereldoorlog predikant was. De foto is gemaakt bij de uitvaart van Dory's oom Herman ter Braak. <<

Looking back, 2012 was a people year more than anything. Young people and old people, they came and went. In 2012, we did not set foot in the United States. That had not happened since 2002. However, by European standards we covered quite a lot of ground in Europe this year.

This first picture is of the church in Hengelo where grandfather (Opa) Reiling was a minister in World War II. It was taken on the occasion of the funeral service for Dorys uncle Herman ter Braak. <<

April was full of people and walks. Nephew Rick, here with his fiancée Naomi, celebrated his 25th birthday with a house full of relatives and friends. It also brought a day's respite from worries in the park wirh Anina (l) and Magda (r). <<

At the end of April, Dory and her sister Paula walked three days of the cross country Marskramerpad, which starts in Twente, in the East of Holland.
Eind april gingen Dory en Paula naar Twente voor een driedaagse wandeling op het Marskamerpad.<<

In May, Wim and Dory went to Spain, or rather, Andalucia, for three weeks. The Spanish classes at the World Bank really paid off here.There were surprise encounters with Picasso in Malaga, with Madame Curie, Albert Einstein (bottom left) and a talking robot at the Ciencias museum in Granada, and in Cordoba with Roman orator Cicero and with Don Quichote in his old pub. June was a very busy month full of reunions. Dory did a workshop at the International Association for Court Management's international conference in the Hague (left). Anne Wallace came to stay all the way from Australia. Dory also went to Bologna in Italy to discuss the European electronic order of payment. Outi Piiroinen, an old friend from Finland, came to Amsterdam with her husband Jorma (right). A wonderful reunion.
In juni was het heel druk met veel weerziens. Dory deed een workshop op de internationale conferentie van de International Association for Court Management in Den Haag (links). Anne Wallace uit Australië kwam logeren. Dory ging ook naar Bologna in Italië om te praten over het Europees electronisch betalingsbevel. Outi Piiroinen, een vriendin van heel vroeger uit Finland was in Amsterdam met haar man Jorma (rechts). Een heerlijk weerzien. <<

Fortunately, July and August were relatively quiet. Juli en augustus waren gelukkig rustig. Tijd voor het maken van het cadeau voor Oom Brian's 90e verjaardag in september: een bundeling van de Reiling familiekrant, geschreven door Opa Reiling tussen 1946 en 1951. Links de kaft van het eindprodukt, rechts viert Wims moeder haar 85e verjaardag met de buren. <<

At the end of August, Leonard Cohen gave two concerts in Amsterdam's Olympic Stadium, much hyped-about in retrospect, which added to the experience of having been there.
In September, Dory went to Kyiv, Ukraine, for an international conference on court excellence. Those five Russian classes in grammar school are paying off, just like the Spanish classes at the World Bank.
Eind augustus gaf Leonard Cohen twee concerten in het Olympisch Stadion in Amsterdam. Achteraf werd het een echte hype, en dus nog leuker om erbij geweest te zijn. Dory ging in september naar Kiev, Oekraïne, voor een conferentie over rechtspraakhervorming. <<

In november waren we een weekje in Brussel. En zo zie je maar: je hoeft niet ver weg te gaan om het leuk te hebben. Dory hield een presentatie bij het EU Rule of Law Platform voor Centraal Azië. De redactie van Computerrecht (Dory zit erin sinds juni) vergaderde toevallig die week ook in Brussel. We gingen naar het Stripmuseum, dat heel goed bleek te zijn. We wilden eigenlijk liever naar het Hortamuseum, maar vanwege Wapenstilstandsdag waren de meeste musea dicht. Volgende keer beter. <<

In december versierden we een kerstboom, en bedachten dat we dat dertig jaar geleden voor het eerst hadden gedaan. En voor wie denkt dat we wel niet veel gewerkt zullen hebben dit jaar, is hier de link naar Dory's publikaties. <<

In November, we spent a week in Brussels, which proved you really do not have to go far to have fun. Dory did a presentation at the EU Rule of Law platform for Central Asia. The editorial board of the Computer and Law magazine, which Dory joined in June, had its monthly meeting in Brussels. We visited the cartoon museum, which turned out to be excellent. We would rather have gone to the Horta Museum, but due to Armistice Day most museums were closed. Better luck next time. <<

In December, we decorated a Christmas tree, and realized we did that the first time thirty years ago.
