Tussen de middag lopen Lars Rehof, Adrian Di Giovanni, David Freestone en ik naar het Tidal Basin om de cherry blossom te bekijken. Maar goed ook. De volgende dag gaat het stormen en onweren. De bloesems zijn in een uurtje verdwenen.
Over lunch, Lars Rehof, Adrian Di Giovanni, David Freestone and I walk over to the Tidal Basin to watch the cherry blossoms. Just as well. The next day, a thunderstorm blows them all away in less than an hour.
Op vrijdag komt moeder Wiskerke aan in Washington. Ze is 79 en vliegt niet alleen. Vandaar dat nich Jozien meegekomen is. Ze logeren on het bekende State Plaza hotel bij ons om de hoek. Op zaterdag wandelen we in totaal 12 kilometer de Mall op en neer. Hier eten we een broodje in het Air and Space museum.
On Friday, mother Wiskerke arrives in Washington. She is 79, and cousin Jozien accompanies her. They stay in our faithful State Plaza Hotel in the next block. On Saturday, we walk a stiff 12 kilometers up and down the Mall. Here we have a sandwich in the Air and Space Museum cafeteria.
Een weekendje in de bossen, dat was het idee. Maar wie had gedacht dat er sneeuw ligt op de Blue Ridge? Niet erg, onze hut bij Big Meadows Lodge heeft twee open haarden.
A nice weekend in the woods is the idea. Who would have thought there is snow on the Blue Ridge? Never mind, our cabin at Big Meadows Lodge has two fireplaces.

in Washington begint de storm rond Bankpresident Wolfowitz op te steken.
Hij heeft er persoonlijk voor gezorgd dat zijn vriendin een luxe uithuisplaatsing
kreeg toen hij president werd en zij dus niet bij de Bank kon blijven
werken. Wij hebben intussen iets anders aan ons hoofd, namelijk verhuizen,
de flat in De Bilt verkopen en conferenties in Den Haag en Singapore.

in DC, a storm is beginning to blow around Bank President Wolfowitz. He
has personally had a hand in getting his woman friend a luxury outplacement
when he became president and she could not stay on at the Bank.We, meanwhile,
have more important things on our minds like moving, selling the apartment
in De Bilt, conferences in The Hague and Singapore, and Klaus' and Wayne's
wedding pictures. <<
Here is the De Bilt apartment, now empty after three days of hard work. Then, quickly on the Singapore for the third version of my presentation on measuring justice performance. The Regional Judicial Symposium is organized by the Singapore Subordinate Courts, for a select group of developing countries. On Saturday evening, we were invited for the annual young Bars of Malaysia and Singapore sports event. In the second picture, our delegates from China, Cambodia and Sri Lanka. I also spent a great time with Foo Yeen Loo, the Information Systems Manager, who explained their ICourts Lab and other interesting features.<<
