Introduction In the field work you actually see three types of plugs, the XLR, the 6.3mm jack and the 3.5mm jack. On the microphone side, it is sometimes the case that unusual parts occur that are not standard and are typically brand specific. Sometimes other plugs are used for feeding purposes. Furthermore, many different plugs are found on mainly consumer-oriented equipment, such as cell phones, Ipad-like devices, laptops, but also some somewhat older recorders. Always go for quality cables, often a lot is invested in a recorder, slightly less in the headphones, microphones are often a key issue and we will not talk about cables. The cable is an important part to connect different devices together. A very important connection is that between the microphone and the recorder. Very small signals pass through this cable and can easily be influenced by external disturbances. The cable between the microphone (s) and the recorder must therefore be a quality cable.
