The history of this Austin Mini Moke built in 1987 which I bought from it's first owner in 1998. The Moke spent it's entire life outside (the weather is just as bad in Holland as it is in the U.K.) so it was badly rusted but still in its original condition, except for the engine . It now has a 1300 cc metro engine under the bonnet, instead of the original 1000cc. Since we bought it we spend a few weeks driving it and then stripped it almost completely down and put it in a corner of our garage. There had to be dealt with a mini automatic first which had to be put back together again. When we finished doing that Mini, the Moke was waked up out of it s hibernation and taken further apart and put on two stands for easier access. Soon it became clear that the Moke was not as good as it looked. Many many thick layers of paint disguised not only details in the bodywork as well as big rusty areas and it became a process of "Find the rusty holes" After many hours of scratching the paint off there where already many holes visible and all off the rusty areas were cut out and new parts were hand made by ourselves. The flat surfaces were easy to create. But the sides of the Moke , with its "dents"in the bodywork were a little more difficult to create. But I managed to get it done.(I had never done something like that before) The pictures ain't ready yet, but when they are ill put them on this page. On the next picture the "dents" are clearly visible but these are the ones on the inside of the Moke and those on the outside were rotten away Also the metalbeetle has had it's fun in the bottom especially the sills hidden in the bottom had been very badly rotten away and are completely replaced. For a easier access to the bottom, we turned the Moke upside down on its two stands Also replaced are pieces in the side of the car: left frontside wing (at least parts of it) and wing extension left and right
The funniest about the Moke is the fuel tank. It looks like a mini nuclear missile. (in the back the caravan, which goes behind the Moke, is partially visible)
