Nothing more known about
Hendrik Swarthof
A large portion of this material was obtained from the periodical "Westfriese families". This material was assambled by M.A. Haas, Arie Swarthof and Piet Swarthof.
The following facts were also presented in this
publication:
The stamvader is Gerrit Swarthoff, born in Gelderland, in Leuvenheim under Brummen. He
was, for his time, late 18th century, an avid traveller and apparently very healthy. He
reached the age of 85. Gerrit was born on 09-07-1747 and moved on 31-03-1768 from
Brummen to Weesp, on 25-01-1769 from Weesp to Haarlem, on 06-06-1773 from Haarlem to
Heiloo, on 03-11-1775 from Heiloo to Beverwijk and on 13-02-1779 from Beverwijk to Zijpe,
where he established permanent residence.
It is very likely that he is a descendant of Ruger Swarthof (1640-1716), paper
manufacturer and public servant in Loenen from 1669-1716. He possesed a shield and a seal.
Loenen has a street named after him: Rutger Swarthofweg.
