For the second part of the expedition we went to Stromboli by boat. Bad weatherforcasts forced us to go up in the dark just two hours after arriving on Stromboli. Volcanic activity on the 7 th of November 2002 was extremely wild and litterly breathtaking ; only with a gasmask one could stay at the top.   

Update : December 2002 Only one week after our visit to Stromboli's top part of the volcano wall slid into the Mediteranian. A tsunami partly destroyed the little village of Ginostra. Lava is contineous flowing from a gap in the volcano wall. There is no Strombolian activity on the top anymore. 

Update : April 2003  A huge explosion occured on Stromboli's top. This might indicate a new episode of volcanic activity on the top. Lucky there were no people at the top. For any photo's from that event see : www.strombolinet.com
