Quirks and Features

The Bad

Normal gameplay requires a certain amount of repetition. The cost of all the cars required to complete all events is more than twice the maximum amount that can be earned if all the events are done only once.
All 4 prize cars are pretty much useless for normal gameplay. It would've been nice if some of the less-useful required cars (e.g., BMW M3 and Ferrari F40) were awarded instead.
Bug: When using anything other than tuning preset A, a car's color won't necessarily be the color that was bought (see Miscellaneous Notes).
You're not allowed to have more than Cr.2,000,000 in the kitty, and the program doesn't explain why there's a limit.

The Good

Includes an option to turn off AutoSave.
Includes an in-game User Manual.
The Race Results list uses car names instead of driver names.
Includes more content (i.e., more hours of gameplay) than you'd normally expect in a concept edition.

In the table below, Drive is the drivetrain (4WD = 4-Wheel Drive, FF = Front-engined Front-wheel drive, FR = Front-engined Rear-wheel drive, and MR = Mid-engined Rear-wheel drive). The data in the PP (Performance Points) column is in the format "stock | minimum-maximum". BHP is Brake HorsePower, and Kg is the weight in kilograms. The Acquire column will have either a number that shows the price or a letter that shows the Class that you'll need to complete.

For the Useful For column, events marked with an asterisk (*) are the ones where the car is absolutely required, while all others are events that the car can also be used for. In the One-Make section of the table, events marked with an exclamation mark (!) are probably best left undone until you have access to the Quick Tune option (available after completing Class A). The first table below shows the cars that I consider the most useful of the non-mandatory cars. The second table shows the setups that I use for the S-class events. Note that I'm nowhere near an expert on tuning, so the setups probably aren't optimal; the setup for the Gran Turismo Elise Tuned probably comes closest, since it generally gives me better results than the 111R or Clio.

Class Events

Completing all of the events of a Class unlocks the next Class. Completing all of the A-class events unlocks access to the Quick Tune feature which allows you to change the settings of the car you're currently using. Note that Bronze is sufficient to complete an event. In the table below, the T column shows the Type of event: R=Race, M=Mission, T=TimeTrial. The Cr. column shows the reward for Gold. The maximum that can be earned by doing all of the Class and One-Make events is Cr.938,000 if done only once, and the total cost of all the cars required to complete all of those events is about Cr.2,009,000. A bit of math shows that some repetitive "money-making" will inevitably be required at some point.

Miscellaneous Notes

Auto-Save. Unlike Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6, GT5 Prologue does include an option to turn off AutoSave. One advantage of turning it off is that it gives you the ability to revert to a previously-Saved gamestate; simply restart the game without Saving. This is especially useful if you want to try a car that you're not sure about, since it gives you the ability to undo the purchase. Having AutoSave turned off also provides an ideal alternative to car collecting; with Cr.2,000,000 in the kitty, you essentially have the ability to "rent" (i.e., temporarily own) any car you want. One other advantage of turning AutoSave off is that it reduces "wear 'n' tear" on the PS3's harddisk. Important: If you're used to the game saving automatically and you turn AutoSave off, remember to do a manual Save before quitting the game if you want to save the current gamestate.
Car Color Bug. For a long while, I thought certain events or car/track combinations caused a car to lose the original color that the car was bought in. As it turns out, the bug is actually in the code that handles car setups. If you enter an event using Preset A, all will be fine and you won't notice that there's a bug at all; however, if you use Preset B or C, the bug does show up and your car's color will change to the first (leftmost) color that's available at the dealer (assuming the car is available in multiple colors). This seems to suggest that the color is stored correctly in the data structure for Preset A but not for Preset B or C. If you have a car that's lost its original color, the easiest way to get it back is to enter an event, switch to Preset A, and then start and exit the event. If you want to avoid any future color changes, you can refrain from using Preset B or C, and only use Preset A. Alternatively, you could use Preset A for your most-used setup and use the other presets for setups that aren't used as often. The car color bug can also be seen as a feature, since it essentially gives you a choice of 2 colors for each car; if you like the first color at the dealer, you can buy the car in a different color and use the tuning presets to switch between the two.
