These environments often have special problems: lack of mineral resources
such as building stone, sand and gravel, lack of fresh water, and
very vulnerable natural resources such as very erodable soils and coral reefs
that are subject to man induced decay. At the same time,
many oceanic islands are subject to strong winds and lots
of sunshine, which allow for generation of cheap wind-derived
or solar electricity.
