The Ariegeois also is a product of a crossing. This breed has been created by crossing a briquet d'Ariège with the pure-bred Gascon-Saintongeois. The Gascon-Saintongeois is considered pure-bred, as his ancestors were also pure-bred. By crossing this pure-bred hound with a bastard, one created a half-breed.

The Ariegeois is a perfect huntingdog for the hunt of hare.

Outside of France you do not see this breed very often.
