Marine biology on tropical islands

Marine biology

Coral reefs are a complete world below sealevel or, as mentioned in this nice introductory site by the
Ocean ResearchGroup, the 'rainforests of the ocean'.

Even in the relatively cold Kingdom of the Netherlands (be it on a subtropical part of that Kingdom, outside Europe, but inside the Caribbean) stands a marine research institute where reef research has been carried out for many years now. This Caribbean Marine Biological Institute or 'CARMABI' is located at Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, and is well worth while a (cyber)visit.

Obviously, the coastal area of small islands is very vulnerable to all man induced impact. Therefore proper coastal management is very important. This database on coastal management provides access to programmes on coastal management in many countries.
