Chapter:-Deckfittings-

Ashwood was used to make the deckfittings.
The picture shows the roughly milled forms.
I cut the wood into 15 mm. lenghts, being carefull with my fingers.
I glued an aluminium tube into the fittings to guide the rope and protect the fitting against wear and tear.
I had to figure out where the fittings would go.
The underside of every fitting had to be shaped by planing and sanding before I glued them to the deck. This was a time consuming activity. In addition to glueing the fittings to the deck, 5 mm. wooden pins bond the fittings to the boat, as these fittings hold the grip lines, extra forces must be reckonned with.
Bolts were used to attach the roller-bearings for the skeg line. I glued the bolts with epoxy into the deck.
The hatch covers will be kept in place by bands. On the right side you see the roller-bearings and bolts, these need to be shortened when the epoxy is a few days older and therefore harder.
The end result. The skeg is out. Little power is required to pull the skeg in. It functions very easily and I can recommend this system to other builders.
