A view of "the farm" here (at 64th St and Quincy in Zeeland). This is the farm that Gerrit William, my dad's grandpa, built. Then, it was Wes and Freda's, where my dad grew up pretty much his whole life, growing potatoes and onions. It is still in the family although no one lives there (Freda just turned 90 and is in a nursing home) and it is in line to be sold. At one time I had wanted to have the land to keep it in the family but the house is in disrepair, and nothing can be built in it's place since it is in muck (the dirt is very rich and black, it's low lying land). My sister and I loved going there as kids because Grandma Freda always had cats. She would call us when a ma cat would have kittens, give us washcloths, and we would scour the barn looking for the hiding places to find the kittens, wrap them up, and take them inside to play.
