An old picture postcard from Lochem 1908.
To the right is Gerrit Jan Hungerink's shop in the "Emmastraat". One of his daughters poses to the far right in front of the shop. As can be read on the back of the card, Gerrit Jan also had a "Groothandel in Ansichten" (Wholesale Company in Postcards). Business expanded and a new shop "Magazijn de Zon", selling almost anything from paper clips to ladders, was opened at "de Markt".
This Gerrit Jan (born 1868) descends from the first marriage of Gerrit Jan Hungerink (born 1796) with Grietjen Hoestink, whereas the American Hungerinks descend from the second marriage with Janna te Velthuis. Although Gerrit Jan was to be the successor on "de Harper" he felt more like a business man, selling "de Harper" in 1908 and starting the shop in Lochem. His son Gerrit (born 1904) and then his grandson Gerrit continued the shop.
