Melanosoma

 

Introduction

Melanosoma are greyish Conopids, which resemble a greyish, clear winged Myopa. Adults visit Umbellifers.

Key

1.a Legs at least partly yellowish brown; tarsae pale; abdomen dulled by dust -> 2

1.b Legs black; wing with median part blackened. Male: abdomen reddish yellow with black apex. Female: abdomen black. 6-10 mm. D. -> Melanosoma bicolor Meigen

2.a Abdomen with yellowish grey dust, pale on 2nd tergite. Female: anal segmetn of abdomen red. 4.5-7.5 mm. D. -> Melanosoma pallipes Meigen

Jizz: greyish dusted: looks like a Thecophora.

2.b. Abdomen yellowish shining, without reddish or yellowish parts. Female: analsegment of abdomen black. 7-7.5 mm. B, D. -> Melanosoma rubripes Villeneuve
