Etna-Stromboli expedition november 2nd-9th 2002
I had only one wish after my experiences on Etna in 2001. One day I wanted to see, feel and hear an eruption of mount Etna. I did not expect to get a chance that soon.
On November 2nd 2002 I joined a Dutch expedition which was going to visit an erupting Etna and Stromboli. Even a Dutch TV crew joined the party. And indeed we were on Dutch national television of the 2nd and 5th of November 2002.
It became a very impressive week. Search and recue parties, earth quackes , rains of ash, Italian politics, lava streams and lava foutains on Etna's flanks. And a night climb , contineous wild volcanic activity, rain, thunder and storm, and no ferry back home on Stromboli.
Photo's were taken under harsh conditions and with great risk to my equipment. But all equipment survived and so did we. See the two links to the Stromboli and Etna photo's.
