Tire building machine Tire building machine (2nd version)
Tire building machine At the end of 2006: Started with the first version of my tire building machine BBM-V1.

Car tires are made by assembling sheets of rubber on drums. At the left hand side of the machine, the outside of the tire is made. On the right-hand side the inside (the carcass) is made and next combined with the outside package.

Breaker & tread drum The drum for building the outside of a tire is at the left hand side: the breaker & tread drum.
Transfer ring The ring brings the breaker & tread package from the left hand drum to the carcass building drum.

FT Walker May 2006:
An interesting model found on the internet at the
University of Twente. It was a fischertechnik model of a passive walker on two legs.

I built my interpretation in a few minutes and it was based on a pendulum of a clock. For now the model is named I'm falling, but it is certainly tempting for more experiments !

You can see two standard modules and on the left hand and right hand side a turn table module. Together they are a transport system for fischertechnik car tires.

Kid's Corner Newsletter
March 2004: Kid's Corner model for the newsletter of the fischertechnikclub Nederland.
Extreme sports are totally hot! On the channel 'Nickelodeon' you can see Otto Rocket racing downhill on his mountainboard, and he is performing great stunts in the half-pipe! Now you can build your own skatetrack and mountainboard with fischertechnik.

Model and building design published in the newsletter of the fischertechnikclub Nederland.
I did use as few parts as possible and as few different parts as possible, so that I make could a large number of these modules and later I could add on other devices easily.

Pressure switch March 2002:
Detail picture of my air pressure switch.

If the pressure at the bottom side of the piston becomes too high, the piston rod goes up, against the force of the spring. The mini-switch is reached and it disconnects the compressor motor.

From the newsletter of the fischertechnikclub Nederland:
Dalfsen 2002: The models of Dave Gabeler were all production robots. One was a pneumatic gripper, with compressorunit with air pressure switch. The other was a robot with electrical gripper, executed in grey building blocks and controlled by a
PLC simulation program running on a DOS PC.

Gripper
fischertechnik demonstration model
On the left hand side: Gripper, bought on a 'Sonderverkauf' in Wuppertal-Vohwinkel.

This model contains three limit-switches. The motor is switched off by two of them, when the gripper reaches its end position. The third switch is activated when an object is caught in the gripper. The right jaw is kept in place by a small feather, but when the jaw gets resistance, it switches the mini-switch by a cam.

Note: This model does contain a number machined (sawn-off) building blocks and the cam has been glued !

On that day Johan Lankheet and I got in the car at 6 o'clock in the morning, first to drive to Wuppertal for a 'Sonderverkauf'. We arrived way too early, but because of the cold, we could enter the store early and we made a very good deal ...

My PLC simulation program My PLC simulation program HCC meeting in Zevenaar HCC meeting in Zevenaar Cees Nobel and me Cees Nobel and me
May 1996: Invited by Cees Nobel to join him on a meeting of the HCC division Arnhem in Zevenaar. I could show my gripper. It was controlled by my PLC simulation program. I wrote this program in TurboPascal, to simulate machine controls on a PC.

Gripper with PC controls The gripper with PC controls Gripper The scissors-acting gripper Gripper Drawing of the mechanism
1995: The scissors-acting gripper mechanism
This robot is capable of movement in two directions, rotation and upwards/downwards. The most special device is the gripper mechanism. It is based on a scissor acting construction. The scissors were driven indirect by a worm wheel. However a set feathers wss placed inbetween the drive and the scissors. If an object was clamped, the feathers were pressed in and a mini-switch was hit.
This design was at the end of '95 my first contribution to the newsletter of the fischertechnikclub Nederland.

fischertechnik 200 I can remember, my brother Dennis got the first box of fischertechnik. It was the box fischertechnik 200! That same day, I was about 4 or 5 years old, I got the box fischertechnik 50. Unlike the extensive box 200, this was a cardboard box with actually only one model: the tractor.
