Tanzania part 4 : Mt Hanang volcano climb 12-14 July 2004
Tanzania is a geologists paradise. 200 km south of the Lengai there is an other volcano standing in the rift valley called Mt. Hanang. This is an ancient extinct volcano which , like Lengai, has its own soda lake Lake Balangida. We traveled from Ngorongoro caldera, via Karatu, to Katesh. We travelled to the base of the volcano the next day and climbed to base camp at 3100m. The following morning we climbed to the top at 3450m. After decending Mt. Hanang there was some time left to visit a Tatoga family. These primitive people live outside the town of Katesh half way up Mt. Hanang.
