Presentation for Monks
The two silver Tangkas
descripted in the Krause and Mishler (KM) under the numbers KM Y14 (ca. 1909)
and KM Y31 (1947) where struck for presentation to monks.

Thangkas which where struck for presentation to Monks.
KM Y14
Obverse: a flower design in an inner
square. The outer square is divided into four compartments surrounded by
ornaments. the legend is 'Ga-den Palace, victorious in all directions'.
Reverse: a wheel symbol in an inner circle.
The outer circle is divided into eight compartments. Each compartment holds one
of the eight Buddhist symbols.
While this coin does not bear a date, it
is known that it was struck in 1910. Coin KM Y14 was struck specially for
distribution to monks by the Dalai Lama at some important ceremony on 21th
February 1910. About approx. 600.000 pieces must have been struck.

Obverse: a flower design (lotus) in an
inner circle. The outer circle is divided into eight compartments. Each
compartment holds one of the eight Buddhist symbols.
Reverse: a wheel symbol in an inner circle.
The outer circle is divided into eight compartments containing the legend: 'Dgar
Ldan Pho Rdang Co Las Nam Rgal'.
While this coin does not bear a date, it
is known that this coin have been struck in the years 1946-1948. This coin was
also struck for distribution by the Dalai Lama when he paid visits to the three
greates monasteries in Tibet. These monasteries are, Sera, Dreburg and Ganden.
The mentioned Thangkas where struck in enormous quantities and it is the last
strucked Thangka in Tibet. Several varieties of this type are known.
