Raw material specification

Rhodes class Fix/KM Y13.8

Most of the Ga-den Thangkas are made of silver or debased silver (billon). Begin ca. 1920 the Ga-den Thangka was known as Thanga Ghabo (White Tangka), be- cause of the bleaching process to which the coins were subjected before striking in order to hide the poor quality of the amount of present silver.

Rhodes class Fviii/KM 13.7

The Spink catalog confirms  that some Ga-den Thangka contains small amounts of gold. The weight of this coins is normal for the coins of the same types. This suggests that if there is any gold added, it must be a very small amount.
