Patch-free-History

You have found the (Red Pill) :

This hidden page lists the main events in the history of the Patch-free-Processing website, from the day of its conception until today.

Note: A * marks an onsite link that opens a new browser window.

1999.11.24 11:50 GMT+1: Usenet.
Start of the rebuttal postings. A standard reply * to any posting that encourages the use of a patched SETI@home client.

1999.11.27 22:24 GMT+1: Usenet.
Call for loyalty towards SETI@home. A signature based statement to replace the practice of rebuttal posting. A copy of the usenet posting * I made in the sci.astro.seti & alt.sci.seti usenet groups. Also see the SETI and SETI@home FAQ, paragraph '1.3.4 .sig Convention'.

1999.11.28 17:11 GMT+1: Online.
This moment in time marked the online debut of Patch-free-Processing. It consisted of just one page and was accessible at http://home.hccnet.nl/a.alfred/nopatch.html while testing.

1999.11.29: Usenet.
A request for a band-aids * scan. To be used in the P-f-P banner.

1999.11.29: Online.
First advertized the page in my usenet signature, http://home.hccnet.nl/a.alfred/p-free-p.html became the address. Added an animated banner on 1999.11.30. At this point, this * is what the page looked like. Also see the SETI and SETI@home FAQ, paragraphs '1.3.6 Patching or cracking SETI@home' and '4.1.12 Patch-free-Processing'.

1999.12.03: Banners.
Redesigned the P-f-P banners after S@h changed their logo.

1999.12.05: New section.
Supporters section.

1999.12.10: New section.
Downloads section. Banners were made available for people to show their support on their websites and for linking to P-f-P.

1999.12.14: P-f-P SETI@home-team.
Formed the Patch-free-Processing SETI@home-team.

1999.12.15: Opposition.
Linked the opposition from the portal.

1999.12.24: New section.
Quotations section.

1999.12.24: Contribution medals.
Designed these for use by the patch-free-processors. Sent these out as a little Christmas present.

2000.01.16: Site maintenance.
Sidebar with 6 buttons created for easier navigation of the website.

2000.01.17: New section.
Links section.

2000.01.17: New section.
The @ Files section.

2000.01.21: New section.
Statistics section.

2000.02.22: New section.
CITY@home section.

2000.03.10: New section.
The main page was getting too long and cluttered. The Patch-free-Processing statement got its own section, leaving the main page for news, version updates, etc.

2000.03.10: Site maintenance.
Added an alternative method for browsing the website, especially handy for those with a small screensize. The top icon on the menubar closes the menuframe. The sitemap at the bottom of the main page can be used in combination with the browser's back-button for navigation. The topleft icon on the sitemap restores the menubar. Both methods can be bookmarked and directly accessed from the P-f-P portal.

2000.03.14: Contribution medals.
Created additional medals for the percentiles that appear in the statistics table.

2000.03.29: Site maintenance.
Started making backdoors available to the different sections of the site.

2000.04.14: New section.
Stories section with stories, written by S@h users, about SETI@home, Arecibo or SETI projects in general. The press articles are about the SETI@home project only.

2000.04.23: Celebration time!
SETISpy Version 2.4.2 was released. It includes a link to the CITY@home section, selectable from the context-menu of the gaussian graph. ("Thanks Roelof!")

2000.05.01: New page.
An additional PBScInt table for the CITY@home section. It contains the highest scoring interesting gaussian with graphic, for people not appearing in the Top50Sc itself.

2000.05.02: New item.
The Links section begins with a 'Link of the Month' item.

2000.05.08: New page.
Made this page, the Patch-free-History.

2000.06.13: Celebration time!
Patch-free-Processing now appears on the linkspage of the official SETI@home website!

2000.07.05: New page.
With SETI@home V3 going Public-Beta, I made a first impressions page.

2000.07.08: New page.
A third table for the CITY@home section. A Top50SR, based on Signal Ratio, containing gaussians that are returned to Berkeley only.

2000.07.20: Site maintenance.
Now 2 tables in the CITY@home section. Merged the old Score-based Top50Sc and PBScInt tables into a single real PBSc table.

2000.09.24: New page.
A third table for the CITY@home section. PBSR(Ret), a Personal Best table based on Signal Ratio to showcase people's best returned gaussians even if they don't make it into the Top50SR itself.

2000.10.17: Added site search functionality.
A free service powered by Atomz.com, brilliant!

2000.10.28: Site maintenance.
Split up the main page and created a separate Odd Ones table as a fourth table for the CITY@home section.

2000.11.28: Celebration time!
First anniversary, this website is 1 year old today.

2001.03.07: News headlines added to the website.
See further down or more on this page. Provided by Moreover.com.

2001.03.29: New page.
Made a QnD devnews page.

2001.04.01: P-f-P hacked???
In a sheer act of rebellion against my work, I decided to hack my own website... Naaah. The truth is, having the 'hacked' website online for a few days was my April Fools joke. I hope I didn't tread too hard on anyone's sensitive toes in the process. But hey, it does happen with my kind of shoe size. The HACKED! page is still available.
For the curious, I used Shredder 1.0 on the pages to get the initial effect and replaced some words with 'HACKED!'. Signed it off with a hint: 'one_for_da_job' ('1/4' April 1st; 'DA' my initials reversed).

2001.07.17: Website reconstruction activities started.

2001.08.12: Website reconstruction is done.
Finally, phew! I was able to put some extra time into getting it completed last few days. This reconstruction was mainly about restructuring the information that has gradually grown since the website debut on 1999.11.28 and clarifying a few sections as well. I hope you like the new layout itself too.
New material can be found under CITY@home and Downloads. The P-f-P mission statement, the supporters and link to the official P-f-P team can be accessed through the "what's?P-f-P" section.

Thanks for visiting - past, present and future!
- Alfred.

2002.03.29: On the update again...

2003.11.07: On the update again, again...
